Video: Setting realistic expectations

Gem
August 17, 2022

😬 I’m guilty of over estimating how quickly I will learn new things, or how long it will take something new to become a habit. This can result in feelings of failure, burnout, frustration and dejection.

🤗 One way to help avoid this scenario is to set more realistic expectations. I need to be honest with myself about where I am in relation to the change (my starting point, beginners mindset), and how quickly I can progress with my experience of the change.

🥩 When I began eating a carnivore diet, it was pretty easy for me and as I was already a big meat eater and didn’t really eat many grains and zero pulses. But I did have a learning curve when it came to becoming fully fat adapted. I just gave my body a break and decided that the process would take as long as it needed and I wouldn’t stress about it. This meant I made progress without feeling a failure for my body taking it’s own time to adjust.

🤔 Accepting that you may need time to adjust to new changes, and then working through each step can take the pressure off you. You don’t have to be ace at the new habit or change you’re just starting out on. Being a beginner can be fun, novel and exciting.

Don’t be in a rush to skip the valuable learnings at the start of your journey!

🤩 As always, if you’re on your own journey of life changes and you’d like to find out how I can support you, get in touch and let’s see what you’re capable of!
