Video: Frustration is your friend!

Gem
August 17, 2022

Feeling frustrated is most likely something that you quickly want to move away from or avoid altogether.

If you sit with it for a while and really look at what is causing it, it can help you make the right next move towards feeling more fulfilled, exited, happily scared or adventurous.

Ususally I feel frustrated when I try things and they don’t work right away. I could choose to move on and try something else (which I do at times), but there is valuable learning to be done most of the time. When I don’t have enough skill to complete a task, I often feel frustrated and look for outside help. But taking the time to figure it out, learn the nuts and bolts of the task mean I’m more equipped to deal with similar situations in the future.

Feelings of frustration at work can arise for many reasons.

Perhaps you feel overworked and under appreciated. Your frustration could be telling you to gather your resources and talk to your manager about your workload and expectations.

Or perhaps you know deep down it’s not the right role for you, and something else is calling you. Maybe that other thing is scary because it’s the new and unknown, but this feeling of frustration means you just can’t get it out of your head.

Maybe you could look into increasing your knowledge of the other passion and start to get more familiar with the terrain?

Whatever the reason for the frustration, there is huge value in listening to what it is trying to tell you!
